Around this time last year we filmed our Cottingley Fairies segment. Too bad those girls didn’t know about the FIS!
The Fairy Investigation Society, founded in 1927 by Quentin Crauford, attracted mostly Theosophists (those who seek answers about nature and divinity through esoteric philosophy). And while the society continued throughout the 20th Century, it disappeared in the 1990s.
If you’re interested, don’t despair! The society was rebooted by Simon Young, an English historian living in Italy. In the past, membership was limited to people who believed in fairies, but now it is open to all who are interested in “fairylore” — whether believers or skeptics.
